Back to overview

From 1 July 2026, tachographs will be mandatory for the first time for light commercial vehicles (LCVs) weighing more than 2.5 tonnes that carry out international goods transport. This measure therefore also affects parcel carriers.

Many drivers and couriers see the regulations as extra pressure or additional administration, but the new generation Smart Tacho 2 actually offers opportunities for the sector. With a tachograph, you gain control of your data. That means more insight, more control, and more efficiency—exactly what you need in a sector where every time slot counts.

When do you need to use a tachograph as a parcel courier?

This measure stems from the EU Mobility Package, which has been rolled out since 2020. The legislation aims to ensure fair competition, better driving and rest times, and a safer sector.

You must use a tachograph as a parcel courier if you:

  • drive an LCV over 2.5 tonnes, or
  • carry out international goods transport.

In many cases, parcel couriers therefore fall directly under this regulation.

More insight & less stress: the benefits of a tachograph

Regulations often feel like an extra burden for drivers—we understand that better than anyone. That’s why our SE5000 Smart 2 is designed not only for compliance, but also to make the work of drivers—and soon couriers—easier and clearer.

Some advantages of our tachograph:

Automatic, accurate recording of driving and rest times (GNSS & OSNMA technology).
Greater efficiency in planning and route management because data is always correct.
Reduced risk of fines thanks to reliable and accurate records.
Less paperwork and fewer misunderstandings between driver and planning.
Higher delivery quality and customer satisfaction through better time management and safer driving.

A tachograph is a requirement—but one that can also provide clarity and reliability.

Drivers in control: less hassle, more overview

The pace of parcel delivery is high. We know many couriers see new obligations mainly as “one more thing to deal with.” That’s why we developed our SE5000 Smart 2 tachograph with one goal: making life behind the wheel easier.

The tachograph supports the driver by automatically recording key actions: border crossings, driving and rest times, and manual entries. The system provides clear alerts when action is required, helping to prevent errors and fines.
